Mr McCaffrey studied medicine at Queen’s University of Belfast, taking an additional year of study to complete an honours intercalated degree in the prestigious department of pathology at the University of Edinburgh in 1999. He qualified as a doctor in 2001 with a distinction in medicine and surgery, and was awarded the Wilson Orthopaedic Medal at final MB examinations.

After completing his Junior House Officer year, he embarked on his surgical career gaining experience in most of the the major surgical disciplines including plastic surgery before specialising in Trauma + Orthopaedics.

He completed a high volume Arthroplasty (joint replacement) Fellowship in 2007 with Professor Beverland at Musgrave Park Hospital, during which he performed a large volume of joint replacements and completed a large randomised controlled clinical trial comparing the outcome of knee replacement implants, which was awarded an MD by Queens University of Belfast in 2011.

In 2008 he obtained a registrar training post in Trauma + Orthopaedics within the Northern Ireland Deanery that led to a certificate of completion of training in August 2014 and entry to the specialist register as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon.

In the final year of his training he secured the prestigious Surrey Foot and Ankle Surgical Fellowship based at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Frimley Park Hospital with Mr Sakellariou, Mr Solan, Mr Halliwell and Mr Wee which has been accredited by the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST), the Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC) in Trauma + Orthopaedics and by the General Medical Council (GMC).

From June 2014 Mr McCaffrey has worked as a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon in the Western Health and Social Care Trust providing paediatric and adult trauma services, with a special interest in foot and ankle trauma, and elective orthopaedic services focusing on the lower limb with a specialist interest in foot and ankle surgery and joint replacement of the hip and knee.

Mr McCaffrey has a lower limb orthopaedic private practice centred on all aspects of foot and ankle problems, hip and knee arthritis and general orthopaedics.

Mr McCaffrey offers medicolegal reporting services for medical agencies and solicitors representing clients in matters of personal injury and clinical negligence .

Mr McCaffrey offers non-surgical aesthetic services using muscle relaxant and Hyaluronic Acid (non-permanent) filler injections to improve facial lines and contouring.
